GRR accepts bulk waste such as solvents, waste oils, coolants, filters, rags, debris, and other solids in railcars, tanker trucks, roll-offs and end dump trailers. Not only does GRR receive waste directly from generators, it also receives waste fuel that has been processed by its sister facilities in Attalla, AL  and Sumter, SC. By coordinating the capabilities of our facilities, we can provide customers with the best service possible for their needs.  

Once GRR has processed the waste into fuel, it is delivered to the Harleyville cement kiln where 100% of the energy is utilized in the production of portland cement. Unlike other cement kilns, in Harleyville, Heidelberg Materials operates separate feed systems for liquid and solid waste fuel. Solids are shredded in three-stages prior to being fed into the cement kiln precalciner. Liquids are injected into the hot end of the kiln and at the precalciner. This unique dual feed system enables GRR to easily process many difficult solid hazardous wastes. 

A few years ago, modifications were made to increase the kiln’s ability to utilize waste-derived fuel by as much as 20% above the prior achievements. In turn, this has increased GRR’s capacity to manage your waste. With these improvements, we expect to conserve the equivalent of 70,000 tons of fossil fuel this year.
