What do you do when a staff member of a U.S. Representative asks if the Congressman can come out and visit the quarry tomorrow? If you are the crew at the Hanson Aggregates Habersham Quarry in Demorest, Georgia, you tell them to “come on over.”

This was the situation last month for Habersham Quarry Plant Manager David Edelberg and his quarry team as the office of Andrew Clyde, U.S. Representative for the 9^th District of Georgia, called the quarry office. Rep. Clyde was attending an event at nearby Piedmont College the following day and wanted to know if he could swing by the quarry for a visit and tour. 

The next day Representative Clyde showed up with two members of his staff for a tour. Rep. Clyde and his staff were provided an up-close look at the operation. During the tour, the entire production process was highlighted from the pit to the processing plant to the stockpiles and customer loadout. The Congressman and his aides even got to experience the very beginning of the production process through the observation of a production shot. The visit concluded with a Q&A session with Representative Clyde and the entire Habersham Quarry.

“This visit provided us with a great opportunity to meet and engage with one of our elected officials and share what we do and why it is important,” said David Perkins, Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications for Lehigh Hanson. “This type of advocacy is very effective and something that every one of our sites can participate in.”

Representative Clyde was very impressed with the team and operations at the Habersham Quarry. He plans on visiting the Hanson Aggregates Toccoa Quarry located 17 miles away in Toccoa, Georgia, in the future.
