Last month, Heidelberg Materials North America
opened the doors of our Granville Island ready-mixed concrete facility in
Vancouver, British Columbia, for a community open house. This year marks 104
years of operations at this location and the ongoing support of the community
has been vital to our longevity and success in the area.
Hosting a community open house gives the public
an opportunity for a behind the scenes look at the operations and a chance to
learn about our business. For our team, it’s a chance to share their passion
for our business and engage with our neighbors.
“Our company has a rich heritage at Granville
Island,” said Dr. Oliver Patsch, President of Heidelberg Materials North
America’s Northwest Region. “This open house is such a great opportunity for
our team to connect with the community that helps to support our operations and
a really reaffirms the benefits that come from being a good neighbor.”
Community members were welcomed through the
gates for an exciting day that included plant tours, touch-a-truck stations and
informational booths about our safety practices and sustainability efforts.
There was a giant sand box, face painting and several hands-on activities for
visitors of all ages. Visitors also had the opportunity to see our newly
refreshed “ball machine” that shows the process for making ready-mixed
concrete.
Heidelberg Materials North America would like to
thank Arts Umbrella, Kryton International, Metro Vancouver Firefighters Band,
and Softball City Canada Cup for their contributions to this year’s event. We
look forward to commemorating 105 years at Granville Island next year and
extend our appreciation to all those who were part of this year’s festivities
and contributed to its success. Here’s to many more years of fostering
community, collaboration and growth.
