Lehigh Hanson, Inc. is pleased to announce that five of its cement plants have earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) prestigious ENERGY STAR certification for 2017. The company’s cement manufacturing plants in Leeds, Ala., Union Bridge, Md., Buda, Texas, Redding, Calif. and Waco, Texas, all perform within the top 25 percent of cement plants nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA. This is the fourth consecutive year the Union Bridge plant has received ENERGY STAR certification and the third consecutive year for the Leeds plant.
“Energy efficiency is a key aspect of Lehigh Hanson’s commitment to operating our manufacturing facilities in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner,” said Jon Morrish, President and CEO. “The operational efficiency and strict energy management at the Leeds, Union Bridge, Redding, Buda and Waco cement plants are a reflection of the priority we place on sustainability and reducing our environmental footprint.”
Earning the ENERGY STAR certification at these three cement plants is just one example of Lehigh Hanson’s industry leadership in sustainable manufacturing processes. Lehigh Hanson has operational efficiency and energy optimization programs in place across all its business lines and the company strives to continually improve its performance in these areas. In addition, Lehigh Hanson is an ENERGY STAR® corporate partner and also has the unique distinction of being the only aggregates producer to have five its crushed stone plants achieve the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s industrial facilities is critical to protecting our environment, “said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the plant floor to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their facilities more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
