Hanson Aggregates in Wise County Assists with Veterans Memorial Project

As visible as our facilities can be in the communities where we operate, it is critical for the company to be a safe and responsible corporate citizen. We must be leaders in employee safety and environmental sustainability as well as being proactive within the local government and a supporter of area schools, chambers of commerce and charitable organizations.

The Hanson Aggregates operations in Wise County, Texas, which include the Bridgeport and Lake Bridgeport quarries, are great examples of how to become more involved in the community. To support their efforts, the Hanson team developed a community relations plan based on the following cornerstones:

• Encouraging Safety and Environmental Responsibility
• Educating Future Leaders
• Empowering our Youth
• Providing for our Community

These cornerstones are anchored by a solid mission statement: "Embracing responsibilities by fostering open communication between our company, our employees and our community."

So when the city of Chico's Chamber of Commerce needed help with bringing its plans for a new Veterans Memorial to fruition, the Wise County team was ready to assist with donations of materials and financial support. With the help of the Hanson team, the Veterans Memorial was completed and a dedication ceremony was held on May 27, 2017.

In a letter thanking the Hanson team for their support, Chamber Member Trudy Mader wrote:

"On behalf of the Chico Chamber of Commerce, I would like to thank you for your generous donation to the Chico Veterans Memorial. Due to your financial support and materials, our Veterans Memorial was more than we could have ever hoped for. Our vision was bigger than our checkbook, but due to Hanson’s contributions, our vision became a reality. Hanson is a vital part of the Chico community and it is a wonderful to see that your corporation is willing to invest in the betterment of our little town. The memorial, for years to come, will be a source of pride for the city of Chico, as well as Wise County. "

The Bridgeport Quarry was recently recognized by the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association with a Gold Award in Community Relations Excellence.
