Lehigh Hanson, Inc., a North American subsidiary of HeidelbergCement, is pleased to announce it has successfully achieved Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) certification for its Cadman ready mixed concrete (RMC) plants in Seattle and Bellevue, Washington and for its Hanson Aggregates River Ranch and 67th Avenue RMC plants, both located in the Phoenix, Arizona, Metropolitan Area.  Lehigh Hanson is the first RMC producer in the U.S. to achieve CSC certification at the Silver level.

“We recently implemented several energy savings measures to further reduce our CO2 emissions and have committed to transparently communicate our CO2 footprint via Environmental Product Declarations,” said Greg Ronczka, Vice President Environment & Sustainability at Lehigh Hanson. “These measures are important for achieving our CSC scoring which serves to highlight our company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.”

In 2016, the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC), co-chaired by Christian Artelt of HeidelbergCement, was launched as a certification system for globally responsible sourcing. The CSC strives to generate a market pull for green concrete by promoting sustainable construction through their certified concrete. The CSC Certification gained recognition from the US Green Building Council for a LEED Social Equity within the Supply Chain  Innovation Credit last December. Concrete that is from a CSC certified plant is more sustainable because it meets the standards set for the following categories: fair business practices & compliance; reducing CO2 emission; enhancing biodiversity; excellence in occupational health & safety; moving towards circularity, using water in a responsible manner; and enhanced responsibility in the supply chain. 

“With CSC certified concrete, we are enabling Green Building developers to score in the newly-created LEED Pilot credit Social Equity within the Supply Chain, which is intended to create more equitable, healthier environments for those affected by and involved in the production of materials and products used in a construction project,” said Lori Tiefenthaler, Senior Director of Marketing.
