HeidelbergCement joins First Movers Coalition

Lehigh Hanson recognizes the importance of continuous innovation as we move toward carbon neutral concrete by 2050 at the latest. While this time horizon necessitates a long-term strategic perspective, thoughtful actions and near-term steps must be integrated to make meaningful progress.

From working with key trade associations like the Portland Cement Association to shape the U.S. Industry’s Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality, to forging ways to lower our embodied carbon today through our EcoCemPLC® line of products, we continue to carefully engage with organizations and partnerships that drive meaningful change.

In keeping with that strategy, HeidelbergCement, our parent company, recently announced it has joined the First Movers Coalition (FMC). This will further leverage the Company’s wide-ranging efforts in carbon neutrality to effect significant change across the globe.

The First Movers Coalition brings companies together to leverage supply chains and purchasing power to shape the marketplace for innovative clean energy technologies. FMC was initially announced by President Biden at the COP26 World Leaders Summit in November 2021. It was launched as a partnership between the U.S. State Department’s U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and the Office of Global Partnerships, and the World Economic Forum, and is in collaboration with the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Energy.

“We are committed to driving our industry to carbon neutral concrete, and through our work with the First Movers Coalition, we can accelerate this process significantly,” said David Perkins, Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications for Lehigh Hanson. “Leveraging our innovative projects and initiatives with the close work with our partners will ultimately yield step changes that transform our industry.”
