Lehigh Hanson hosted U.S. Representatives from Congress at two cement facilities during the August Recess. Our sites regularly host elected officials at plants when the opportunities arise, especially during legislative recess periods when members are taking time in their districts to meet with constituents. These types of events are always valuable for both the Lehigh Hanson team as well as the members and their staff because it provides an opportunity for dialogue and a better understanding of the critical role manufacturing facilities and their employees play in the local and regional communities in which they operate.

Evansville, Pennsylvania

Congressman Dan Meuser (R-PA-09) came to the Evansville, Pennsylvania, plant and spent some quality time discussing updates around the plant and the industry, the overall workforce development needs for the area, as well as the importance of long-term infrastructure investment in Pennsylvania. Jody Rebuck led the group on a tour of the facility, highlighting the quarry, alternative fuels system and control room of the plant. “I always enjoy the opportunity to meet with the hard-working folks in the district,” shared Congressman Meuser, “and realize what an important role the Evansville plant plays in the economic vitality of this region.” Team members from Lehigh Hanson who joined Congressman Meuser in the meeting included Region President Alex Car, VP Cement Operations Quentin McGahey, Plant Manager Jody Rebuck, Environmental Director Adam Swercheck and Production Manager Tyler Matthews.

Mitchell, Indiana

Congressman Trey Hollingsworth (R-IN-09) visited the Mitchell, Indiana, plant to get an update on the construction progress that is moving rapidly along for the Kiln 4 project.  The visit was focused on the significant amount of headway the project team has made on construction over the past several months. As the group walked around the project, Representative Hollingsworth got some perspective on the scale of what is coming together, including the largest dome fabricated by sprayed concrete in the Western Hemisphere and ascending to the 400+ foot preheater tower to get a true bird’s eye view of the construction project. “It is exciting to come and see what is happening here in Mitchell with this project,” said Hollingsworth, “and I look forward to the long-term value that these people and this facility will bring to this region of Indiana for decades to come.” Region President Axel Conrads, VP Cement Operations Tom O’Neill, VP Cement sales Toby Knott and Plant Manger Tracy Crowther were present from the Lehigh Hanson team to visit with the Congressman and host the tour.
