The team at the Heidelberg Materials North America Headquarters welcomed Representative Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) on Monday, February 13, for a visit and conversation about the new 118th Congress. Congresswoman Van Duyne has represented the 24th Congressional District, which includes the Las Colinas Office in Irving, Texas, since 2021.

With more than 500 employees based in the Las Colinas office, Congresswoman Van Duyne’s visit was an important opportunity for the Heidelberg Materials team to share some key policy areas that the company is focused on. These included the efficient flow of federal dollars to infrastructure projects in states, workforce development as well as the importance of reasonable and efficient environmental permitting processes. It was also a good opportunity to hear from Congresswoman Van Duyne about her priorities as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has the responsibility for raising the revenue required to finance the federal government. 

“It is essential that we meet with our elected officials whenever the opportunity arises,” said Chris Ward, President and CEO of Heidelberg Materials North America. “Today’s visit from Congresswoman Van Duyne presented us with an opportunity to share the challenges our business is facing and also learn about her priorities and focus on reducing wasteful spending and increasing government accountability.”

Van Duyne. “As part of my Texas-24 Tax Week, I’ve appreciated hearing from leaders in our community about how our tax code impacts their businesses. I was glad to visit Heidelberg Materials and discuss their priorities for the new Congress. My work on the Ways and Means Committee will help our businesses be more globally competitive, grow our economy, and allow everyone the chance to achieve their American Dream.”

Congresswoman Van Duyne has been in Irving for more than 30 years and was the first woman elected to serve as the Mayor of Irving from 2011 to 2017 after beginning her career in public service as an Irving City Council Representative from 2004 to 2010. After that she served as Regional Administrator for the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development’s Southwest Region.
