On Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, Heidelberg Materials hosted Iowa Lt. Gov. Chris Cournoyer at its cement plant in Mason City, where she was joined by Colleen Frein, president and CEO of the Mason City Chamber of Commerce. The visit highlighted the facility’s 115-year history and its ongoing contributions to the local economy and infrastructure development.
The Mason City plant has been a key part of the community since its founding, supplying high-quality cement for projects across Iowa and the Midwest. During the visit, company leaders discussed Heidelberg Materials’ commitment to sustainability, innovation, and workforce development.
“We were honored to welcome Lt. Gov. Cournoyer to our Heidelberg Materials cement plant in Mason City, joined by Colleen Frein,” said Patrick Karamaga, plant manager. “Their visit was a meaningful opportunity to highlight our 115-year legacy in Iowa and the essential role our plant plays in supporting the local economy and community. We’re grateful for their continued support of our industry.”
Lt. Gov. Cournoyer praised the plant’s long-standing presence and its forward-looking approach to sustainable manufacturing.
“It’s impressive to see how Heidelberg Materials continues to innovate while staying deeply rooted in the Mason City community,” Cournoyer said. “Facilities like this are important to Iowa’s economy, and I appreciate the company’s commitment to both environmental responsibility and workforce development.”
The visit also included a tour of the plant’s alternative fuel system, part of Heidelberg Materials’ broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and enhance operational efficiency. The company aims to achieve a 50% alternative fuel substitution rate by 2026, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable cement production.
