Heidelberg Materials recently welcomed neighbors and community members to an open house at the Lewisville Pit, in Battle Ground, Washington, creating an opportunity to share information about operations and upcoming mining activities as the site prepares to expand into its newly permitted Phase 3 area this fall.

The expansion received final permit approval on April 1, 2025, and includes additional wet and dry mining areas, including approximately 34 new acres in Phase 3. The project will help support a continued local supply of aggregates, the essential materials used to build roads, homes, schools and other infrastructure across the region.

The event featured mine tours, refreshments, rock painting, and informal discussions with team members. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the mine, ask questions about the expansion and gain insight into the site's role in supplying construction materials to local communities.

“Engaging early and transparently with our neighbors is essential to how we operate,” said Jason Hickman, the Lewisville Plant Manager. “Events like this allow us to listen, answer questions, and demonstrate our commitment to responsible operations as we move into the next phase of mining.”

Community engagement has been a priority throughout the permitting process. Heidelberg Materials worked closely with neighbors during permitting and, following approval of the conditional use permit in 2024, established a formal Community Action Group that meets quarterly to discuss mining and reclamation progress, review monitoring data and address community questions and concerns.

The open house was well-received by attendees.

The strong turnout highlighted the value of open communication and ongoing partnership. As mining activities move into Phase 3 later this year, Heidelberg Materials remains committed to operating responsibly, engaging transparently and being a trusted neighbor in the Battle Ground community.
