Recently, we opened up our Union Bridge, Maryland plant to representatives from Build With Strength, a coalition of the National ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) and the Maryland Ready Mix Concrete Association (MRMCA), along with some other local contractors to explore the plant's contributions to low carbon concrete.
During the visit, attendees received a comprehensive presentation on the harvesting and production of materials for various types of cement. This session provided valuable insights into supplementary cementitious materials and debunked common myths about Portland Limestone Cement (PLC).
The tour also included a visit to the lab where visitors got to see the testing and inspection processes for cementitious materials. This visit underscored the importance of innovative practices in the concrete industry and the ongoing commitment to sustainability.
“Working alongside national and state industry associations enables us to further reach our customer base and contractors about the importance and benefits of using more sustainable products like our EcoCem®PLC to lower the carbon footprint of concrete,” said David Perkins, Senior Vice President of Sustainability & Public Affairs for Heidelberg Materials North America. “Industry programs like Build With Strength also play a key role in our advocacy strategy and help position concrete as the building material of choice for sustainable construction.”
Build With Strength is a coalition of the National Ready Mix Concrete Association that offers webinars and courses to architects, engineers, and building and fire code officials as part of its education efforts to promote safety and resiliency and help place more concrete.
