Following last year’s opening of its new state-of-the-art cement plant in Mitchell, Indiana, Heidelberg Materials ceased portland cement production at its manufacturing site in Speed, Indiana and invested in modifying the facility to produce slag cement from domestically sourced slag granules.

Last month, Heidelberg Materials North America opened the doors of our Granville Island ready-mixed concrete facility in Vancouver, British Columbia, for a community open house. This year marks 104 years of operations at this location and the ongoing support of the community has been vital to our longevity and success in the area.

Heidelberg Materials North America announced today the latest step in its two-stage competitive procurement process as it works to select the carbon capture technology and contractor for providing the CO₂ separation solution for its Edmonton, Alberta, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Project. This ground-breaking project is planned to be the first full-scale application of CCUS in the cement sector.

In Gig Harbor, Washington, a collaboration between Heidelberg Materials North America, Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity, and their partners has showcased an innovative approach to construction: Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) using concrete produced with EvoBuild® Low Carbon Concrete and Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA). This project was supplied by Corliss Resources LLC, a Heidelberg Materials company which has started its rebranding to Heidelberg Materials this week.

Heidelberg Materials North America is pleased to announce it has been selected for award negotiation to receive up to $500 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) Industrial Demonstrations Program (IDP).
